Bahamas Mule

One of the error coins of New Zealand is called the Bahamas Mule

This happened on some of the 1967 2 cent coins where some
were accidentally struck with The Bahamas Islands Obverse
instead of New Zealand

Here is another error coin I like
Also a 1967 coin and a 2 cent one as well.

This 1967 was struck off centre giving an interesting look to the coin

1967 New Zealand 2 cent ...Struck off centre Obverse
.

1967 New Zealand 2 cent ..Struck off centre ..Reverse
.

The reverse shows a distinct shift to the right of the pattern

I hope others have some interesting error coins to show us. Smile

Here is a common error world wide.

It is a clipped planchet where a crescent slice occurs due to
the strip of metal being miss fed into the press.

u9106_image932.jpg

New Zealand 1978 10 cent with clipped planchet

There is usually Rim Weakness on the side opposite the clip.
This is called the 'Blakesly' effect and is due to the absence of pressure in the
area opposite the clip.

Here is another error on a New Zealand 1975 50 Cent coin

It is called a Split Planchet and happens when a planchet splits before being struck

The coin is still struck causing both sides to get Very weak strikes

This shows the normal thickness ( Top Coin) compared to the Half thickness of the split planchet ( Bottom Coin )

I wonder what the Queen thinks of the Cuds on her nose Embarassed

As a die wears, during minting, small chips and cracks appear causing amusing varieties.

This is one we Call Wart Nose and is on the 1999 New Zealand 5 cent coin.

u9106_image480.jpg

This photo shows the progression of the Cud size as the Die deteriorates from early wear
( coin on the left ) to more advanced wear. ( coin on the right )

Some errors on coins I don't really know how they are caused...and this is one of those.
Maybe it is caused by oil on the die

u9106_image135.jpg

The 1997 New Zealand 5 cent coin on the left is normal , and the one on the right has Fat writing.

Close up of the wording with normal coin at the back and error coin to the front

I guess this is common in other countries coins too, especially if it is due to excess oil
on the die during the minting process.

Thanks for information and pictures

are these error coins more valuable than normal ones ?

i mean one can build fake ones cause these are metal and could be formed into shape.

Comment:

Hi coin Iran

My ones are all known recorded errors and have only slightly more value than normal ones.

Many errors happen as a Die wears so there are plenty of error coins are around.

Therefore there is not enough value in them to make it worth making fakes.

cheers
emeye
