2003 Australian Silver Proof Coronation Jubilee 1 Dollar Coin

In 1953 I was all agog sitting in front of the television set that Dad had bought for the great day. All the family were present, aunts, uncles, grandmas, grandads, cousins plus friends from the street. The Coronation parades were marvellous. It was the British spectacular at its best.

As the crowds outside gladly endured the rain, we indoors watched in the dry as the Archbishop lowered the St Edward's Crown onto the head of the Sovereign. We called out with the Abbey congregation "God Save the Queen".

Twenty-five years later I stood at the curb of The Strand as, for only the second ocassion in her reign, Queen Elizabeth rode in the Coronation Coach in procession. With eyes wide open my two young children cheered and waved with the rest of the crowd as the huge fairy-tale golden coach lumbered and swayed past on its way to St Pauls Cathedral. The next week in the school assembly, when the children were asked to raise their hands if they had watched the Queens Jubilee on the television, they were the only children to keep their hands down! They explained to the Headteacher and the school that they had not watched the television - because - they were there! They were the envy of all. They even had the official progamme to prove it.

When the Golden Jubilee was celebrated in 2003 Australia issued a beautiful silver proof one dollar coin.

This 40.6mm diameter 99.9% silver coin carries on the obverse the Ian Rank-Broadley effigy of the Queen. The reverse carries the coloured representation of the St Edward's Crown above the breast badge of the Order of the Thistle. The design includes two decorative borders and the words: "ELIZABETH II 1953-2003 and "ANNIVERSARY OF CORONATION". Underneath the crown is the "P" privy mark of the Perth Mint.

Beginner
I dont know much about coins. All I watch is for a ship/boat/submarine in the coin design as I am passionate only about ships, boats, submarines. Also, I concentrate much on stamps, so coins and banknotes are my second option because of my budget allocation to the hobby :)
